Audio Beta working fine
Up to General forum
Hi guys - have been busy but thought you'd like to know that the audio beta is working good on my 2ghz p4 shuttlex cube computer, 1gig ram (VIA mini itx mainboard) - using an older model 'creative'(soundblaster) stereo usb setup - I was having issues with the onboard audio (ac97 sound driver) but that turned out to be a motherboard issue because the soundcard can be configured as a stereo or 5.1 surround setup. I played around with that for awhile and got it to work but I had problems which I think are unrelated to your operating system. Your OS recognized the USB soundcard instantly upon bootup and so I installed the OS on the shuttle. The install was easy and it hooked right up to the net. I went thru the usual latency issues with the JACK/alsa system and I was pretty amazed that it recognized the midi I/O on the USB module. Needless to say, the sound system setup took a while to configure, but once I had it setup optimally I was able to save each setup that I used and was able to recall each custom setup as needed for different programs...in this case - Rosegarden and Ardour, both worked fine. My next step will be to try out a 4channel USB device from midiman called the "quattro".. It's an older interface that has worked with linux systems - (Musix). I have to say that using Linux for audio is not for the unexperienced - As I have often said - there are too many setup variables that hinder the creative process - by the time I get done configuring JACK and ALSA as well as the program I'm using - the creative energy gets lost....At least by having Vafeo audio installed I can now go to my saved setups and start working fairly quickly. I had some latency issues with Hydrogen which were solved with a different JACK setup. All in All your audio linux OS is as good as any of the rest and I think it works fine - you can't beat the price...thanx CjB

This caught my eye - may help in saving sessions where multiple programs are used
for instance running rosegarden/hydrogen/amsynth at the same time... Will have some time for
testing this weekend - http://www.nongnu.org/lash/
